In that they are doing nearly everything except their intended purpose. Frankly, I’m surprised cell phones even make phone calls anymore. Little Village Academy in Chicago had banned students from bringing their lunch from home over concerns of the nutritional content of the self-prepared meals.
“Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school,” Principal Elsa Carmona said. “It’s about the nutrition and the excellent quality food that they are able to serve (in the lunchroom). It’s milk versus a Coke.” Says Carmona. She Said she instituted the policy 6 years ago when she saw kids consuming “bottles of soda and flaming hot chips.”
Internet blog author John Barron had this to say in response, “What business is it of the school system to dictate what my child consumes at lunch?” Barron continued, “…a child’s education should be the focus of the school, the child’s health decisions are better left to the parent…it’s like the school is saying parents don’t know how to care for their kids, so we have to do it for you, it’s just not right”
The schools are intruding a bit too far into the role of the parent. Educators and politicians are over stepping their bounds. Unfortunately it has been a slow process which goes relatively unnoticed until something like this catches the attention of the parents. The frogs should have jumped from the pot long ago.

Ridiculous. Precisely one of the reasons I homeschool my children, even in the face of idle threats from the school district. I told them to buzz off. Well, my lawyer did, actually!
