The White House today released President Obama’s long-form birth certificate. When the “birther” movement arose (originally by the Clinton campaign during the 2008 presidential primary race), Obama released his short-form birth certificate, or certificate of live birth. Since the short-form’s release, speculation as to Obama’s true place of birth has been shrouded in secrecy according to skeptics of the President’s eligibility. But now with the release of the document everyone has been demanding comes a truth so shocking, it confirms what most of the country has known all along.
That “birthers” will never be satisfied. Why did it take so long to release? Simple. The Obama camp needed time to forge a copy that could fool an expert. These people have put so much stock in Obama not being a native-born American that they must now continue in their “quest for the truth”. Like “9/11 truthers”, no amount of evidence will ever suffice.
Honestly, Obama brought it upon himself by playing to the “birthers” suspicions. But those intent on holding to a conspiracy theory (ever notice that people who believe conspiracy theories, usually believe multiple theories?) will hold on with a vice like grip. My advice, work on what you can change. Who knows, maybe sometime in the future “birthers” will turn out to be right, and they can scream ‘gotcha’ for the rest of their lives. But for now, focus. There are bigger issues than chasing a political ghost.
