Happy Earth Day!

Eww people!  This seems to be the sentiment of many environmentalists.  The notion that everything would be just fine and dandy if all the disgusting humans weren’t ruining everything.  Intrusive laws and regulations imposed all in the name of saving the environment which, by the way, doesn’t need saving in the first place.  As the late George Carlin used to say, if the Earth gets tired of us, it will just shake us off like a bad case of fleas.

So for all the nail-biting environmental dooms-dayers out there, I am happy to report:

(Oregonlive) — For people who want more action on global warming, an inconvenient truth has arisen over the last decade: Annual average temperatures stayed relatively flat globally — and dropped in the United States and Oregon — despite mankind’s growing release of greenhouse gases.

The hiatus in temperature increases may be contributing to higher public skepticism about warming, particularly in the United States. But it hasn’t changed most climate researchers’ opinions of likely substantial human-caused warming this century from releases of carbon dioxide and other gases.

(The Globe And Mail) — The debate about climate change and its impact on polar bears has intensified with the release of a survey that shows the bear population in a key part of northern Canada is far larger than many scientists thought, and might be growing.

The number of bears along the western shore of Hudson Bay, believed to be among the most threatened bear subpopulations, stands at 1,013 and could be even higher, according to the results of an aerial survey released Wednesday by the Government of Nunavut. That’s 66 per cent higher than estimates by other researchers who forecasted the numbers would fall to as low as 610 because of warming temperatures that melt ice faster and ruin bears’ ability to hunt.

(Canada.com) — The latest government survey of polar bears roaming the vast Arctic expanses of northern Quebec, Labrador and southern Baffin Island show the population of polar bears has jumped to 2,100 animals from around 800 in the mid-1980s.

As recently as three years ago, a less official count placed the number at 1,400.

(TheGuardian) — The world’s greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.

The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.

[…]

Bristol University glaciologist Prof Jonathan Bamber, who was not part of the research team, said: “The very unexpected result was the negligible mass loss from high mountain Asia, which is not significantly different from zero.”

(Real-Science.com) — In a sure sign of devastating global warming, Arctic ice area is nearly one standard deviation above normal.  Meanwhile, Antarctic ice has been above normal for the entire year.

(JunkScience.com) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has conducted air pollution experiments on live human subjects that discredit its claims that fine particulate matter kills people.

[…]

Of the 41 human experiments, clinical effects were reported by the EPA in only two study subjects. Both of these are controversial. One is the case study reported in Environmental Health Perspectives, which has been previously debunked. The other study subject flagged by the EPA researchers as experiencing a clinical effect (“a short episode of an elevated heart rate during exposure”), in fact, denied feeling any effects. This reported effect was most probably due to some pre-existing condition or other stressor given the low-level of PM2.5 to which the study subject was exposed. Certainly the EPA has no reason to believe that was not the case or that the alleged heart rate jump was due to the PM2.5exposure.

The other 39 study subjects were exposed to PM2.5 levels up to 21 times greater (i.e, up to 750 μg/m3) than the EPA’s own permissible exposure limit for PM2.5 on a 24-hour basis (i.e, 35 μg/m3). All reported exposures among the 39 study subjects were greater than the EPA’s 24-hour PM2.5 standard. Seven study subjects were exposed to levels 10 times greater than the EPA’s 24-hour PM2.5 standard. No clinical effects were reported for any of these exposures. [emphasis original]

So rest easy alarmists.  The Earth is doin’ just fine, and so are we.

  1. Thank you for this intelligent post. By the way, “Earth Day” is set aside for all pagans to worship the creation rather than the Creator!

    • Not trying to turn this into a biblical discussion, but you’re spot on. It is the ultimate example of worshipping the creation over the Creator! And most people who “celebrate” Earth Day, do so as a holiday.

  2. Marshall Art says:

    Two points:

Are these reports by anyone with peer-reviewed studies under their belt? Apparently, for a few people with whom I’ve debated, only such people can be relied upon, despite the often very political nature of the peer review process.

Secondly, in fairness, any study dealing withe effects of…whatever…upon human health must also deal with long term effects. Many toxins build up in our systems and won’t affect us until that build up is sufficient to do so. But it helps to know that short term effects are beneath the concern the greenies would have us believe.

    • The last study was done by the EPA, and the polar bears were counted — not to mention, every time there is a new count there is always “more than expected”. Temp measurements are recorded and charted. Not much to review. The point with the EPA study is that alarmists were claiming people were dying because of air pollution, in real time. A claim that the EPA built policies around, which they have since themselves debunked.

  3. Here is a link posted a while back about how research has proven there is no such thing as man-caused “global warming.”

  4. That’s hysterical – they just make things up as they go along rather than admit that their whole theory is a house of cards. Sort of the way they are with evolutionism

Any Thoughts?
