I’m not dead yet

Just to keep any regular readers updated: I haven’t quit this endeavor yet.  My absence is due to a new home purchase and moving is a bit hectic.

My wife and I bought a house not long after we were engaged about nine years ago just before the home prices began to inflate to absurd levels.  We were there for about 6 years.  It wasn’t bad, for a first home.  Just as the bubble was on the verge of collapse, we knew we needed to sell while we could come out on top.  Our agent knew her stuff and got us sold in six months for a decent profit.  We were lucky to get out when we did.

The plan was to rent for 5-7 years, save, then purchase again when the market stabilized.  We found a great rent through a listing from Craigslist.  It was in town, right in the center — a pretty desirable location.  The landlord seemed to take to us and overlooked the fact that we had two dogs.  Everyone should have a landlord like we had.

However, the real estate industry took a turn in our favor.  Interest rates are at an all time low, and prices are on the decline as well.  Our credit which was once pretty low had improved within the two-and-a-half years we had been renting.  We were able to save enough for a down payment (which wasn’t really even that much, only 3.5% of the purchase price), and so we began to scout potential homes.

My wife and I found a place that we both could agree we really wanted.  For the money, it is a bit on the small side, but the yard is great (giving me an excuse to “need” a new riding mower).  The neighborhood is small and quaint.  It’s at the end of a cul-de-sac with each neighbor being of retired age.  Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, a response I am not used to from neighbors.

The closing was on the 23rd, which is also my wife’s birthday.  Everything went as smoothly as it could have.  I had some frustrations with the loan process, but nothing that gave me any (more) gray hair.

So now we are in the midst of finishing the move and unpacking.  I will be back on the keyboard again soon, making the usual people either nod in agreement (the smart ones), shake their head in disbelief or disgust (those who are still learning), or swear at their monitors (because they didn’t realize they could be so wrong).  Any suggestions for topics would be greatly appreciated.  I’d hate to wait for my motivation to kick in.

Any Thoughts?
