I saw something on television last night that truly exemplifies everything wrong with our modern culture. It was disgusting, somewhat hilarious, but mostly sad.
People desperately building robots with which to have sex…
Yes. That’s right. People are designing robots that look human, sound human, and have the capability of sexual motion. People are seeking all the pleasures of human sexual interaction without all the emotional baggage.
While searching online, I found a related article.
If you’re younger than 35, you’ll probably live long enough to put David Levy’s prediction to the test. Levy says that by 2050 we’ll be creating robots so lifelike, so imbued with human-seeming intelligence and emotions, as to be nearly indistinguishable from real people. And we’ll have sex with these robots. Some of us will even marry them. And it will all be good.
Heck, no arguments, STDs, infidelity, or credit card debt! Only $6,000 per unit! Check it out at Discovery Health…
Ugh. Yes, humanity makes me cry. People are so obsessed with pleasure that their willing to forego that which makes life worth living. If this sort of lunacy becomes common place, society will have effectively sunk into a cask of utter meaninglessness that necessitates its destruction. There will be no point to humanity’s continued existence anymore.
Is this lunacy? Or, am I looking at it all wrong?
pretty scary stuff
I read a report from GQ a couple months ago about the effects of porn use. It said that 50 percent of porn addicts have never had a sexual relationship with a real person. So the jump to robot does not seem that great, given that some people are having a sexual relationship exclusively with online images anyway.
Askme,
I hadn’t heard that – but I don’t doubt it. It’s insane. People are losing the ability to relate to anything but an electronic device.
