Earlier this week while driving to Chili’s for dinner, there was a prompt to call in to a local radio station for a chance to win tickets to see a live show of Yo Gabba Gabba. Immediately my wife jumps on the phone to try her luck. Of course, the line is busy for the first eight attempts due to all the frantic dialers vying to be the coveted ninth caller. Eventually, we finally got an open line, it was ringing. It must have rang three dozen or so times and my wife asked if she should hang up. “Ehh, they’re probably talking to the winner now, but you might as well stay on and let them tell you it’s not you.”
“Do you want to see Yo Gabba Gabba live!?!” shouted an energetic radio personality.
We won four tickets to see the live show. It’s a great feeling winning something like that. For some reason you feel proud, as though there was some skill involved, right?
This isn’t the first thing we have won by being the right caller. A few years ago I won a New York Yankee’s DVD box set chronicling their history. That ended up being a gift for my father-in-law, who was a die-hard Yankee fan. This will be the third such live show we have won by being the lucky ninth caller.
I joked earlier this week that the winner of next weeks $60 million Powerball jackpot will be complaining that they didn’t win it one week earlier for half a billion.
Questions for readers:
- Have you won any really great prizes from radio call ins or contests, or even in raffles?
- Were there any you were really close on?
- How about a prize you wish you hadn’t won?
Any Thoughts?
