Are Blacks treated less fair than Whites?

A Pew Research survey polled people asked people whether they believed Blacks are treated less fair than Whites.  Apparently most people believe they are.  I am prone to believe there are more isolated anecdotal incidents than wholesale unfairness.  But even in many of the cases, I don’t think it’s so much because of race than it is other factors.

One factor that is rarely taken into account is personal presentation. For example, the young Black men in Fig 1 will be treated similarly to the young White men in Fig 1a.  Whereas the young Black men in Fig 2 will be treated similarly to the group of young White men in Fig 2a.

So I’m curious to know what readers think.  In each of the categories Pew asked about, do you think Blacks are treated less fair than whites?

  • Dealing with police
  • In courts
  • On the job
  • In stores and restaurants
  • In public schools
  • Getting healthcare
  • When voting

In what ways would Blacks be treated less fair?  Or in other words, how would Whites be treated more fairly, what benefits do Whites receive?

Any Thoughts?
