Statistics

Who doesn’t love statistics?  I sure do.  What statistic do you find really interesting?  What about one that you found shocking the first time you heard it?

Comments

  1. Only 1.7% of people in the United States are gay.

  2. There are more people that claim to be alien abductees than claim to be gay, 2% of the US population have had possible “abduction-like experiences”

Why either group gets any credence is beyond me

  3. paynehollow says:

Doug, are you saying that small minorities should be ignored? Their rights trampled because they’re not a large enough minority? What does it mean “should not be given any credence…”?

    Along those lines, some stats:

There are only 10-12 passages in ALL the Bible that deal with some kind of gay behavior. A tiny percentage.

Of all the Bible passages, there are zero percentage that claim all gay behavior is wrong.

Of the passages that deal with some sort of gay behavior, 100% of them appear to have to do with either rape, prostitution or some other abusive behavior.

These statistics and the texts behind them had a lot to do with me changing my position on this topic.

  4. paynehollow says:

What Doug SAID was “Why do they get any credence…?” which sounds like he’s suggesting they shouldn’t get any credence, which is why I asked.

    ~Dan

    • Meaning “why we bend over backwards to change the rules of society that affect the entire nation…” especially since we don’t capitulate to any other group as small.

  5. I like these stats better:

    * 100% of the verses addressing homosexual behavior denounce it as sin in the clearest and strongest possible terms.
    * 100% of the verses referencing God’s ideal for marriage involve one man and one woman.
    * 100% of the verses referencing parenting involve moms and dads with unique roles (or at least a set of male and female parents guiding the children).
    * 0% of 31,173 Bible verses refer to homosexual behavior in a positive or even benign way or even hint at the acceptability of homosexual unions.

Best of all, unlike Dan’s, these are true.

  6. Hello John,

The Bible might condemn homosexuality and also the eating of ham & lobster, but the American people aren’t obligated to adhere to the opinions of an bronze age tribe even if those opinions are claimed to represent the views of a terribly incompetent warmongering genocidal god.

A god who commanded the Israelites:

Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the Lord sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the Lord. 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”

Isn’t worthy of obedience. It is just as well to thoroughly dismiss the moral judgments of such a monster.

If God doesn’t approve of homosexuality, too bad for God. If conservative Christians don’t approve of homosexuality, too bad for them. It is the 21st century and therefore well past time for humankind to put away childish things.

  7. Hello John,

“Why isn’t it too bad for liberals and non christians? ”

Because your side has already lost this battle and we’re not going back to the 19th century to accommodate the bigotry of the bigots.

“How did you determine that you’re right and we’re wrong? ”

Homosexuals aren’t going to cease to exist regardless of the opinions and prejudices of Christians. So your side has lost and that is good. Your side must get used to losing these cultural battles.

  8. If all the liberals are for “equal rights,” then why do they keep clamoring for “gay rights” and “women’s rights” – especially when those two groups have the same rights as everyone else already? Oh, that’s right, because “gays” want the right to redefine marriage, and women want the “right” to murder their unborn children.

David is like all other of his ilk. They have no clue what scripture really says, and act as if their claims haven’t been responded to thousands of times. They are time wasters, which is why the aren’t allowed on my blog.

  9. Hello Glenn Chatfield,

Gay marriage is legal marriage in the United States of America. Here is a cultural battle which has already reached a settlement. You’re side lost. Thank God!

Abortion is legal and has been so since Roe v. Wade. This battle is ongoing since the more backward states of the South (which once defined black people as non-humans, by the way) seek to make the medical procedure illegal.

As to the pro-life claims of Christians: Christians have killed uncountable millions of humans and continue to promote warfare and violence today. Christians should perhaps wash the blood off their own hands before casting stones at women getting abortions.

    • Whether or not “gays” have same-sex fake marriage does not alter the fact that real marriage is between opposite sex people. Calling a leg a tail doesn’t suddenly make it a tail.

Abortions are legal? WOW, I didn’t know that! Slavery was also legal. Making something legal doesn’t make it right; after all, it was legal in Germany to kill millions of people just because they weren’t liked.

And your last paragraph is a normal talking point from ignorant people like you. Just an assertion which everyone is to accept, except those who actually study history know what a lie it is.

  10. Hello Glenn,

The law recognizes same-sex marriage now. Whether you accept the law or not doesn’t make the least bit of difference. The issue is settled, the gays are getting married, and this is going to be the reality for the rest of your life. Might as well accept it because it isn’t going to change.

    Abortion is legal. Yes, indeed!

You can reject history if you wish but the Old Testament itself reveals that Yahweh, the tribal god of the Israelites, was a violent genocidal sinner.

  11. Frankly, Glenn and John, if you have trouble dealing with the likes of a Dan Trabue, what greater waste of time is it to deal with this sad David fellow?

    • Marshal

It’s weird. He sees to think speculations ie, probably, maybe, doubtless, etc. and assertion ie, everyone knows, it’s settled that, etc is the same as evidence and argument for a position.

  12. Marshall,
You’ll notice I ignored David’s last stupidity. He and Dan are two peas in a pod, except Dan is dishonest and claims to be a Christian while essentially supporting a lot of what David says.

  13. Hello Marsha,

Christians are very good at avoiding talk especially when they aren’t at all equipped to answer those who criticize the many faults, errors and absurdities of Christianity.

Christians are quite correct in noticing that the United States has become a secular nation, perhaps even an atheist nation, and therefore the era of Christian morality has passed. You people will have to become used to living as an unhappy minority in a religiously, ethnically and culturally diverse nation.

In the 21st century, homosexuals will enjoy all the rights & privileges & responsibilities of marriage. Thank God!

    • David,

Those who practice homosexual behavior always had the same “rights & privileges & responsibilities of marriage” as did everyone else. All they had to do was the same as everyone else, i.e, marry someone of the opposite sex, marry someone not a close relative, and marry someone who was of age.

But “gays” didn’t want the same rights as everyone else, rather they wanted the right to redefine what marriage and family is – and that has been their stated agenda for at least 50 years. They wanted, and got (due to liberal judges) a special right to call a leg a tail.

With those who practice homosexual perversion, and their enablers such as you, they don’t want the same rights – they want “gay rights,” i.e. SPECIAL RIGHTS.

Don’t thank God for it, because God sees it as an abomination.

  14. Hello Glenn Chatfield,

I’m afraid that you aren’t intelligent enough to engage in a meaningful conversation about anything at all, much less the rights of homosexuals in a modern secular atheistic democracy.

Needless to say, your opinions and the opinions of your non-existent god are irrelevant. America isn’t returning to the 19th century merely to satisfy your own prejudice and bigotry.

    Thank God for God’s nonexistence!

    • David,

Your sad and unprovable assertions about my intelligence and about God only demonstrate your continued foolishness. And then you have the effrontery to charge bigotry and prejudice all the while exhibiting gross prejudice and bigotry!

  15. Hello Glenn,

    Whatever …

  16. David,

“Marsha”?? Where have I seen that before? Considering your comments at this blog, I am not surprised to see something so unoriginal. I am more than equipped to once again refute your many bogus critiques of “the many faults, errors and absurdities of Christianity.” The question is why should I do it yet again, especially considering your certainty that you are absolutely correct in your delusions? You’ve thus far have not brought to the table anything that has not already been exhaustively and conclusively rebutted by far more knowledgeable people than me or the many desperate “scholars” you’ve cited who fail to fill the holes of their arguments.

Based on your comments thus far at this blog, you are typical of that sad soul who is so quick to latch onto anything that validates his wish that truth is false. I’ve no time to start up a new debate rehashing all the familiar distortions, misinterpretations and outright lies to which you so eagerly cling.
