Recently the National Association of Letter Carriers union held a rally on the New Haven green in an effort to raise awareness to the detriment of reducing the number of delivery days from six to five. Attending the rally to show their support were U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D CT3) and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal. To give you some perspective as to my proximity to them, I had the opportunity to photograph each legislator and shake their hands. During their speeches I was no further than 15 feet from them as they soap boxed in favor of keeping the USPS delivery schedule status quo. Needless to say, both DeLauro and Blumenthal have also showed unwavering support for limiting access to certain fire arms and “high-capacity” magazines due to their perceived inherent danger.
Before continuing, I must stress this in the strongest possible terms: I am in no way making any threats in any way, nor am I expressing any desire to harm or cause harm to any person including Rep. DeLauro and Sen. Blumenthal.
I have had my permit to carry concealed handguns since I turned 21, 13 years ago. The day of the rally I was carrying my handgun as I do when traveling almost anywhere. I think my point can be easily inferred: I was armed and in close proximity to DeLauro and Blumenthal. As I said, both shook hands with me and dozens of other attendees. However, both legislators were completely safe. Why? Because the gun owner (me) had no intention or desire to cause them harm. You see, I am a law abiding gun owner. And as much as I detest both, politically speaking, I would not have hesitated in the slightest to use my firearm to come to their aid had someone like Jared Laughner been present because my guns are for protecting innocent people.
It’s not the guns or how many bullets a magazine can hold, or even the ammunition that’s the problem. The real problem are the mentally disturbed and criminally minded who have murderous intentions.
If I had been there, I would have been packing a Super Soaker filled with ketchup. Oh yeah, they would have got it!
