In a previous post I outed liberal media outlet Think Progress for using intentionally misleading headlines to stir up support for 18 year-old Kate Hunt who was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a minor. The headline read: Florida Teen Expelled, Charged With Felony For Lesbian Relationship. A more accurate headline would have been: Florida Teen Expelled, Charged For Sex With Minor. The essential details of the case are that Kate Hunt began a sexual relationship with a then 14 year-old girl. That’s it. That’s illegal in Florida.
The law Hunt violated reads as follows:
(4) LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS BATTERY.—A person who:
(a) Engages in sexual activity with a person 12 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age; or
(b) Encourages, forces, or entices any person less than 16 years of age to engage in sadomasochistic abuse, sexual bestiality, prostitution, or any other act involving sexual activity commits lewd or lascivious battery, a felony of the second degree
However, Hunt and her supporters are spinning this case as some kind of religious witch-hunt. While it may be the case that the victim’s parents oppose the relationship due to their religious convictions, the State of Florida does not. What the state sees is a then 17 year-old individual engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14 year-old. Hunt’s sexual proclivities are irrelevant to her criminal charges. So when Hunt and her supporters don t-shirts with “Stop The Hate, Free Kate”, they too mislead the issue intentionally or not.
Perhaps Hunt feels like a victim because gay activists are persistently urging gays and lesbians to believe they are under constant threat of being hated. If you don’t get a job, it’s because you’re gay. If someone doesn’t hold the door for you, it’s because you’re gay. If you get arrested because you have sex with minors, it’s because you’re gay.
Are we on our way to a place where homosexuals are immune from all criticism or criminal prosecution? What would it take to have Hunt, her supporters, and the media to accept that she is being criminally prosecuted for violating the law and not because she is a lesbian?
