Everyone, including myself, is susceptible to selfishness. When holidays arrive, we are prone to not really appreciating why we should even have the holiday in the first place. Why do we celebrate Memorial day? Because people much more brave than ourselves had knowingly risked — and subsequently lost — their lives to better and preserve our way of life.
Please, if you are of a religious bent, pray to God and thank Him for the brave men and women who keep us free. If you are not, just take a moment or two to thank them nonetheless. My suggestion: give thanks out loud.
