Yesterday I was able to meet — if you can call such a brief encounter a meeting — Stephan Pastis, author of my favorite comic strip, Pearls Before Swine. He was in my area promoting his new children’s book, Timmy Failure, and was signing copies at a near by book store. I figured this was likely to be the only opportunity I’d have to get his autograph or see him in person since we live on opposite ends of the country.
One thing I found humorous on the shelf whilst I awaited my coveted autograph, was this book:
It occurred to me that two Tyrannosaurus Rex parents should have Tyrannosaurus Rex offspring, no? These T-Rex parents, on the other hand, have what looks to be a Triceratops (-ish) progeny.
How cool! Zeeba Nayba’s are my favorite Pastis characters.
My niece once got me an autographed copy of The Illustrated Man from Ray Bradbury. I was thrilled. :)
How funny is that, Sally! My daughter loves the crocs and loves when they say “Zeeba Nayba!”.
I’ve always liked the way rat and pig interact together. I think its one of the most well written strips out there.
I’ve even written a couple posts about his strips. Search: Unintentional Profundity…maybe, and Liquid Atheism.
Love Pearls. It is the only comic I read since we got rid of the paper. Glad you got to meet him.
My all-time favorite is when the zebra went on Jeopardy and won because he used the History Channel (or something like that) to fall asleep and learned all sorts of things by accident.
My favorites are the pun strips.
