Life’s most asked — and arguably most important question also seems to be the most difficult one to answer.
There’s a lot to consider:
- Is the answer different for everyone, or is there a single purpose for all of humanity?
- Is the answer discovered or determined?
- Can it be answered in the first place — is it even possible to discover or determine?
- Can what someone believes is the meaning of life be incorrect — can you know your answer is correct?
- Does it involve others, or is life’s meaning restricted to the individual?
- Is there meaning at all, if not, can we know there’s no meaning?
We’ve all thought about this I’m sure, what have you come up with?
Early on in my walk with God when I saw Christianity as a form of self help I would’ve said the purpose of life was to reach your career potential, do good and have healthy relationships. And while those things are promised the true goal is not to have a better life but to have life period. That’s why Jesus said let the dead bury their dead (Luke 9:60). So the meaning of life is to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
One of my favorite quotes by miscellaneous preachers: “Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good but to make dead people live”
UGH! I used to know who said that! It is so true. I get the strong impression that unbelievers as well as many believers don’t know this.
